We believe that Self Storage is a far easier process than many would think, however one aspect seems to challenge customers more than any other. Answering the simple question “what size unit do I require”
The language is tricky to understand as rooms are based on floor square feet and cubic capacity, yet only few have a clear visualisation on what this might mean – either from their school days or their profession. Align to this that home storage often doesn’t rise much past waist high, which when translated to a Storage Room loses most of the vertical capacity.
And so, we spend a great deal of time training each of our Storage Advisers around size estimation. This allows them to walk customers through the process of understanding the items they are storing and the appropriate room size they will fit in. It only takes a few minutes, invaluable when you think of the savings this assessment can make on over estimating the space you need (40% of enquirers over estimated)
The easiest way we can help save customers money, is to have them secure the right room size. They can have a bad estimate from a competitor based on the room they have, not the room the customer needs. We try and help the customer to understand this important factor. The last thing a customer wants come moving day is challenges and stressed around where their goods are to be stored!
Access to the unit is a big factor too. Not all providers who brand them as Self Storage allow for frequent, irregular or short notice access. Can you walk to your unit, unlock your padlock and access your stuff – this is an important question to ask and to consider of your needs.
