There’s a lot to be excited about if you’re currently living in Manchester. The city is becoming more and more appealing by the day and there’s a string of great things set to happen over the next 12 months. So whether you’re after some sporting action, a chance to shop ‘til you drop, or you simply have your sights set on an adventurous holiday, here are three things to look forward to over the next year in Greater Manchester.
Premier League title race
Neither Manchester City nor Manchester United had a particularly stellar season in 2016/17. However, both teams are predicated to return with vengeance in the new Premier League season. The bookies currently have both squads as most likely to take the title, so it looks as though the city centre streets will be lined with either red or blue fans come May 2018. Of course, almost a year of highly-anticipated matches will come first at the Etihad Stadium and Old Trafford.
The Christmas markets will make their grand return to Manchester in early November. Often considered to be among the best in Europe, this year the festive-themed stalls are set to be bigger and better than ever. It’s thought that over half a million people will visit the markets – and most will likely leave with their hands full of goodies. If you find that you buy too much and end up stuck for space, you can always keep any of your excess items in self-storage units located in the city centre or Middleton.
Manchester Airport expansion
Earlier this year, it was announced that £1bn will be invested to make a ‘super terminal’ at Manchester Airport. Though the expansion won’t be complete until 2020, it’s forecast that more and more airline operators will start offering extra routes to and from the city in anticipation – some as early as 2018. This could mean that it will become easier than ever to travel around the world from Greater Manchester.
Great things lie ahead!
Manchester certainly looks like the place to be moving forward. Every year the city becomes more equipped and there’s always loads of stuff – including secure self-storage units – for people to take advantage of.
