We love Manchester. It’s our home town, and now more than ever we want to celebrate all that’s great about it. So, with that in mind, here are some of our favourite things about the place we call home.
There’s no better thing than a good meal, and here in Manchester we’ve got pretty much every kind of epic cuisine you could think of. Whether you want a top-notch curry, a Mexican feast or you want to go local and enjoy a pile of Eccles cakes or a Bury black pudding, you can dine out in Manchester for years without ever getting bored.
Whether you’re a red or a blue (or even a neutral), Manchester is the place to be when it comes to football. Our great city has played host to some of the world’s best players. It currently boasts two of the UK’s best teams and – of course – was the base of operations for probably the greatest manager of all time. Come on, even Pep Guardiola came here. Welcome to Manchester.
Obviously we’ve got a vested interest in this point, but it stands! Manchester’s business district has been booming in recent years, with Spinningfields growing and expanding to take in a range of new companies. What’s more, even the BBC picked our city when they wanted to build a new home, putting Manchester at the heart of the UK’s media network.
Over the years, Manchester has contributed to science and research in a number of ways. Our city is university-heavy (University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Salford are three of the main ones), and you might not realise that Manchester was actually the city in which the atom was first split. What’s that? You want more? Three words: Professor Brian Cox.
As the fourth-largest retail centre in the UK, Manchester is a heaven for shoppers. New Cathedral Street, The Arndale, The Trafford Centre, the Northern Quarter… name your shop of choice, and you’ll find it somewhere in our great city. Shop away.
